About Me

Top Luxury Bloggers

Welcome to my site! Where I chronicle one luxury find at a time – in travel, products, places and home spaces. I am a Mom with two kids; a 5 year old boy and a 2 year old girl. So I carry a Hermes Birkin bag as a diaper bag and often wear Chanel flats. My priority is being a work-at-home Mom, so what I buy and what I use is practical luxury.

Why luxury living for practical people? The best way I can describe it, is via a story that my grandmother would often tell. One year for Mother’s Day, my grandmother gave my brothers and myself $5 to buy a present for our Mom. One of my brothers found a gift that cost $10 and wanted to borrow another $5. My other brother found a gift for $3 and wanted to use the other $2 to buy something for himself. I found a gift for $10 that was on sale for 50% off. I loved how I could give her something that was ‘expensive’ but within my budget.

Even though we were just little kids at the time, our shopping philosophies continued into adulthood. Today, I find Tory Burch pieces for a fraction of the cost, or a pair of Chanel flats in the resale market for a bargain. I may find an expensive authentic Hermes bag on Ebay, but I show you what to look for and how to save for it. I’ll show you how to decorate or how to travel with class without spending a fortune.

Often people think luxury is out of reach. But for many, it is just knowing where to look, where to splurge and where to spend to buy the luxury item of your dreams. The word luxury is also fluid. I find it a luxury to just get a good night sleep! But buying luxury on consignment or on resale means you reuse and recycle, and reduces your impact on the environment. With the money I save, I use to give back to my community and plan for my kids’ futures. Last year, our family gave over $20,000 to charities and non-profit organizations. We also spend a lot of time giving back to the community with volunteer opportunities and, for me, legal pro bono work.

I spent years pinching pennies just to put food on the table. {Working in government and non-profit agencies have great missions, but not a big paycheck!} I loved what I did, but now I love my kids and the other work I do. While I can buy a pair of Chanel flats now (on consignment of course), I’m proud of the hard work I did to get where I am in order to do so. It is why we all work hard to begin with.

I also believe in buying the best once. Many will spend the same amount on a lot of clothes. Or maybe say they can’t afford a pair of Chanel shoes, and how lucky am I that I can buy them? But that same person will be going out to dinner every weekend, or getting haircuts every two weeks, or never clipping coupons. At the end of the day, it is all a perspective.
